General Surgery

General surgery is performed on the abdomen, for conditions such as hernias, ulcers, appendicitis, gallstones, tumors, and pancreatitis. Orangewood Surgical Center and its surgeons utilize minimally-invasive cutting-edge techniques – such as mini-open and laparoscopic – to perform procedures, when possible. This results in quicker recovery times and less side effects and pain than an open approach. Conditions and Procedures of general surgery include:

Conditions

• Appendicitis
• Hernias
• Gastric Tumor
• Ulcers
• Pancreatitis
• Blood Disorders
• Gallstones

Procedures

• Appendectomy
• Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy
• Open Hernia Repair
• Laparoscopic Hernia Repair
• Gastric Resection
• Hemorrhoidectomy
• Ulcer Repair
• Splenectomy

Laparoscopic procedures are performed with a laparoscope, a small surgical camera used to examine the injury. During a laparoscopic surgery, a surgeon will make a small incision over the abdomen, through which the laparoscope will be inserted.

With the laparoscope, the surgeon is able to examine clearly the damaged tissue, hernia, or any other cause of pain. With surgical instruments through small surgical ports, the surgeon will then be able to take the steps necessary to treat the injury, such as pushing a herniated tissue back into place, repairing the tear, or removing an inflamed gallbladder.
